Delete ~/.wine and install IE7 with winetricks. Be aware that while it installs, it's still very buggy, and not recommended unless you have an app that won't work without real IE (and in most of those cases, IE6 works better).

The beauty of winetricks is that it handles all the changes to winecfg for you.

Make sure you delete ~/.wine before using winetricks; you've messed up the wineprefix by following that other howto.

Works fine here in 1.3.8. I see you're using 1.2; try upgrading. Also, make sure you're using the latest version of winetricks.

I re-installed Wine 1.2 & it works when I click on the icon from inside the Program Files folder but not from the command line.

I have Wine 1.2 because it seems to be the recommended version i.e. the stable one. What do you think of Wine 1.3.8 in comparison?

Also, I used winetricks to install flash but it's not showing up in the IE7. How do I install flash into IE7? Specifically I would like to view the google embedded audio player.

To clarify, I am able to see the embedded google audio player but I cannot hear the audio file when I click to play it.

So the problem was solved by using PlayOnLinux, running Win 1.3.6. To download the latest flash player from the Adobe site, I had to lower the security settings to a risky level as otherwise I was unable to use the Active X controls on IE7. The security was raised again before going to the site with the embedded players but adjustments have to be made to allow use to the Active X controls. This seemed to something unique to IE7 running on POL.
